LIFE UNDONE – ‘Clandestine’ EP Review

life-undoneLife Undone are a five piece band from Kingston, Surrey. They self describe themselves as “Alternative Rock with a punky edge and a dark undertone” which is a perfect summing up of their sound.

The EP opens with ‘Clandestine’, a sinister song that mashes together heavy guitar, thudding drums and bass underpinning a strong vocal. There are glimpses of Amebix and Shoegazers Ride throughout the track.

‘Gemini’ is more of a straight rock/pop track with a rhythmic feel that had me thinking of Ocean Colour Scene.

The third song on the EP ‘Blessed the Coward’ is 4 minutes and 10 seconds of quieter verses leading to strong choruses. It is followed by the heavier ‘What I Know’ that returns the listener to the darker and gloomier vibe exhibited on the opening track. The chorus of “You don’t know what I know” is delivered in a style that Marilyn Manson would be proud of.

The final track on the EP ‘Cloak and Dagger’ is another four plus minutes of power chords but this time the pace is increased as the drums come to the fore driving the song. The song slows down after the first chorus and I’m left with a feeling that the band are difficult to pigeon-hole and their aforementioned self description is right on the money.
