LIVE BY THE SWORD – ‘L.B.T.S’ Review

live-by-the-swordHere at Punkonline Towers we love receiving the latest releases from labels and bands all over the world. One of our favorite labels is the Dutch based Rebellion Records who consistently release powerful punk records. The 150th release from Rebellion is from Live By The Sword. The band has an international flavor with Dutch and American band members and the 7” single is another strong release.

Side A is LBTS and, as the promotional alludes too, there is a retro feel to the song. Starting with a strong punk riff, I’m reminded of some of the UK82 British punk/Oi! bands such as Blitz, The Business or Cock Sparrer.

This is not pure imitation though, the track takes a different direction as the riff chops and changes half way through to add a chunky rhythmic approach. It’s a strong punk song.

The B-side, Soldiers, continues to impress with a melodic guitar over another classic punk riff. As a debut release for Live By The Sword, there is no doubt that the band has the potential to be a strong addition to the punk circuit. With a nod to classic punk mixed with a 2016 attitude and production values, the single is a one to add to your collection.

Since it is LIVE BY THE SWORD‘s debut single and REBELLION RECORDS‘ 150th(!) release, they have produced slightly different pressing with 500 copies on black vinyl, but comes on extra, heavy-weight 70 gram vinyl and in an extra thick, 350 gram sleeve, making it a collectible release that is build to last!
