NEUTRAL BOMBS – ‘Another Culture Dies’ Review

This is the first release from a new punk band from Switzerland. Lead singer, Dexter also runs the record label, Nextpunk Records and this seven song EP is published on that label.

Opening with a solid drumbeat and UK Subs like guitar intro ‘Old Inside’ builds to a terrace chant chorus that has you punching the air. The guitar work is very strong with a great solo reinforcing the chant “living like you is a waste of time…”

Next up is ‘Another Culture Dies’, the title track of the EP and it is clear that we are dealing with another great new punk band. The formula here is strong, tight musicianship backing lyrics lamenting the state of society sung in a throaty growl with strong backing vocals.

‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ seriously ups the pace and, despite the title, also ups the sense of anger. Neutral Bombs veer more towards the melodic end of punk and compare well with the likes of Bad Religion. If you enjoy your punk angry, melodic and powerful, they are a band you should check out.

On ‘Stick to your Guns’ the band showcase a ska infused guitar track before returning to some fast paced punk on ‘Right Side’ and Dexter’s vocals brought to mind early Jake Burns on Inflammable Material – for me, this is one of the strongest efforts of the seven.

Ending appropriately with ‘The End’, the band slows things down, hammers home some strong guitar and ups the fist in the air chorus…it’s a fitting ending to a super debut.

This is one of the most accomplished debut punk releases we have heard here at Punk Online towers and well worth parting with a few pounds/euros/dollars and adding it to your collection.
