STEALERS – ‘Street Law’ Review

stealersFrom our Dutch friends, Rebellion Records comes the latest rabble rousing album from Rotterdam’s The Stealers. Street Law is a follow up to 2012’s self-titled debut album and it’s a barnstormer!

The bands press release offers comparisons to Motorhead, Rose Tattoo and Johnny Thunders and there is a melodic vein that runs through the ten energy packed tracks on the album. Punk and metal have often inter-married and I got a Cockney Rejects “metal period” vibe from this one.

Opening with some Discharge style distorted bass, Blitzbomber launches into a full on headbanging riff that Lemmy and the boys would have been proud of. It sets the stage for The Stealers – tight, accomplished, fast and loud.

Swept Away speeds along propelled by some excellent drumming. There are elements of Sham 69, Cock Sparrer and the lyrics are straight from the street. Don’t Hold Back is a slower track but packs an incredible punch with a stomping chorus destined to be a live favorite.

Breakout, a re-recording of the bands 2013 single is like listening to Status Quo on speed. It’s pure rock n roll bliss!  The album continues to drive the listener into head banging submission with each song sounding like a potential single.

Knife Point melds the metal infused vocals with a melodic chorus and some strong backing musicianship. The album closes with Born to Steal a fast paced and muscular street punk masterpiece with some great guitar riffs.

The album showcases a band who are very good at what they do and they do it well – if you like your punk with a street feel, a little bit of Oi, a dash of metal and some Motorhead topping, this is an album for you!
