STUPID KARATE – ‘Punk Is A Free Pricing Corpse’ EP Review

STUPID KARATE – Punk Is A Free Pricing Corpse

stupid-karateStupid Karate is a French hardcore band from the city of Lille and describe themselves as “just four dudes playing fast songs”. Their free EP, Punk Is A Free Pricing Corpse is available now. The four song EP opens with the Minor Threat/Fugazi like The Devil Rides Out and displays some excellent musicianship and is not short of power either!

Embrace My O-Goshi is almost one and a half minutes of sheer punk rock and packs time changes/shifts into the time – it’s a strong effort showing the bands tightness honed on the road. The third track is a superb cover of the Ramones classic Pet Sematary as it adds intriguing sections to the well-known chorus. Stupid Karate have some creativity in their approach and are not afraid to display it.

Closing with Stand Out Of My Sunlight the band take on a hardcore approach with a three-minute skate-punk classic with a Pennywise style chorus. The track has a sludge-punk middle eight section full of ominous power and then closes with a shouted/spoken word verse. Different, powerful and strong effort indeed!
