Snotty garage punk duo TEEN MORTGAGE have shared a brand new music video for their ‘Is It’ taken from their debut EP ‘Strange Times’ released May 13th on Wiener Records.

‘Is It’ their first single from ‘Strange Times’ is a riff heavy collision of skate-punk sensibilities and a low-fi garage fuzz that makes it perfectly clear that genre boundaries can and should be collapsed at every opportunity. Filmed in drummer Ed Barakauskas’s garage, the video was self-produced and recorded to VHS.

“We went out the to the garage and filmed us performing our song about being generally uncertain about your whole life,” Ed explains. “Unfortunately right after, I dropped the tape down the toilet. When we fished it out and put it in the VCR, it just got dead warped and weird and we just went “all right, sound”.”

Lyrically, the track deals with one of vocalist James Guile’s romantic breakdowns as he explains:

“‘Is it’ is all about the moment when the passive aggressive undertones in a relationship start to come to the fore. It begins happening more and more over the course of a doomed relationship but at the time no one says anything about it” said James.

Originally formed by James in Liverpool, UK but now located in Washington DC, USA the two piece in question met on Craigslist and began playing music together in January 2016. Sharing stages with respected bands like Plague Vendor, Acid Dad and Big Business, they have quickly cemented their place in the cities DIY scene, even catching the eye of punk rock talisman Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi) at a recent show as well as securing the support of Wiener Records (an offshoot of famed Californian label Burger Records) for their debut EP released on cassette earlier this year.

Produced by Chris Johnson at Mix Down Studios, Odenton, Maryland, Strange Times is available to purchase now from Teen Mortgage’s official Bandcamp: teenmortgage.bandcamp.com
