TONIGHT WE STRIKE – ‘The Speed Of Thought’ Album Review

TONIGHT WE STRIKE – The Speed Of Thought

Tonight_We_StrikeTonight We Strike were born out of the ashes of The Rumblers. And the band state that they are dedicated to the punk ethos of progress, questioning authority and rejecting dogma and propaganda. The band are based out of New Jersey and their debut album was released by Violated Records on July 28th.

The album opens with pace, burning guitar riffs and some excellent drums support some melodic lead and backing vocals. Hear Them Call has a skate-punk vibe with a nod to fellow American punk legends Bad Religion and Pennywise with hooks-a-plenty!

Slings And Arrows keeps up the speed but allows the rumbling bass and drums to support the vocals before those chunky guitar riffs kick in. Loved this track for it’s sheer power and accessibility. The cleverly titled In Bombs We Trust would not sound out of place on a recent Bad Religion album (and that is a huge compliment) as the band display some strong songwriting chops and a knack for a hook or two!

Next up on the 15 song album is Holy Grail where the band take down the pace a couple of notches and the prominent bass is joined with a mournful guitar lick and personal lyrics delivered across a strong Pixies style approach (bass & drums in the verse and powerful guitars on the choruses) – great song and Tonight We Strike have me convinced!

We’re Going Down reminded me of Bad Religion’s Dharma And The Bomb with a churning riff and great vocal! The band don’t shortchange the listener at all with no song under two minutes and they showcase some variety with a punk/folk approach with Inglorious (superb song!). The pounding intro to America Calling sets up a 2017 punk rock protest song and Tonight We Strike follow it with Pedigreed slows things down a little with an Amebix rhythm and riff.

The absolutely excellent Tonight We Strike powers along with purpose and demonstrates a monster chorus and it’s followed by That’s My Tight where the band tip their caps to Pennywise with a rabble rousing raucous punk rocker! On Isn’t It Time To Get Nervous a head-banging riff opens up and leads to some churning verse work before the band decide to put the pedal to the metal and add some serious speed!

Tonight We Strike keep things moving with Devil’s Radio and This World War. They close the super album with A Farewell To Arms a sure fire mosh pit pleaser with hooks, melody, power and a message…get this album and get it soon…you will not be disappointed:  Grab The Speed Of Thought here: www.violatedrecords.com
