A VERY SPECIAL EPISODE – ‘Cut For Time’ EP Review

A VERY SPECIAL EPISODE – Cut For Time

A Very Special AttitudeNew York City’s A Very Special Episode self-describe as having “a unique and atmospheric soundscape, concocted from ethereal shoegaze melodies, blended with the grit and attitude of post-punk, and finished with the energy and intensity of pop hooks.”

Originally formed in 2016, the band has undergone a number of line-up changes and worked to develop their sound, all consistently led by the dynamic and enthralling vocals of Kasey Heisler and melodic guitar-work of Patrick Porter. The band have just released sophomore EP Cut for Time  on August 31, 2018.

The five-track EP opens with Gravity where some reverb tinged chords meet some feedback and combine to launch a mid-paced head banging, foot tapping, shoulders swaying swirling and atmospheric track with excellent female lead vocals and a Ride like chorus with some hints of the Ravonettes.

On Still Here the drum beat accelerates, the feedback continues to wash over in waves and a super guitar lick brings everything into focus creating a Siouxsie & The Banshees meets Sisters of Mercy effort that will have you shuffling your feet and smiling! The fuzzy guitars create a punk rock vibe on Crazy where I was reminded of The Undertones with s super vocal whilst the penultimate song, Invitation To Delete slows things down a tad to showcase an anthem like approach with rocking choruses and great lyrics!

This terrific EP closes with a return to shoegaze reverb drenched guitars, steady bass and drums and soaring vocals as On Our Own Again steadily worms its way into your soul and then catapults into pounding beat – it’s bloody good stuff!
