APEMAN SPACEMAN – HAVE NOT LOVE
New Digital Single Taken From Eponymous Debut EP,
Both Released: 15 July
Apeman Spaceman make a dark, dirty, explosive kind of indie. Following the release of the snarling, visceral punk of debut single Spacecatraz, the London 4-piece are now set to release the thumping, fuzzed glam-rock of Have Not Love.
As lyricist and frontman Johnny Cooke explains, Have Not Love is “a non-love song. It’s about that darker side, that loves a bit of self harm and can’t keep its pants on. And the bass line wrote the lyrics.”
The accompanying video comes courtesy of film director Ben Charles-Edwards and Sadie Frost, who together with the band have created and produced it (with Sadie Frost also featuring in the video as one of the sinister masked figures). Summing up the song’s main theme, the video is a misanthropic Alice in Wonderland on a dark day by the Thames Estuary, but instead of befriending the strange and wonderful characters she meets on her journey, this Alice destroys them. As frontman Johnny points says “It’s Malice in Wonderland, if you like.”
Apeman Spaceman are Johnny Cooke on vocals/guitar, Rikki Mehta on guitar (both founder members of post-punk band Dogs), Carl Dalemo on bass (an original member of Razorlight) and Ethan Kennedy on drums and art.
The band release both the digital single Have Not Love and their eponymous debut EP (CD/Vinyl/Digital) on 15 July via Apeman Spaceman’s imprint Bin Party Records.
HAVE NOT LOVE LYRICS:
Your super hero blows your super hero nose that you’re up to no good
You buy another drink with a rectangle of paper, you wink and you miss the straw
You’re the skilful abuser using every ruse in the book to ignore
The reality of every day that suffocates your skin, plugs every pore
That you didn’t love
You didn’t love
You didn’t love
You didn’t love
And the night lost its light, and the pills don’t work
Until another’s lips lose control, and it feels so good
So you’re not in love, you know you’re not in love, no you’re not in love
And that busted bridge doesn’t have a keystone you better watch out from above
As you’re walking hand in hand through a foreign town
You try your hand in her hair but you look around, still!
Coz you didn’t love (Have!)
You didn’t love (Not!)
You didn’t love (Love!)
You didn’t love
And the night lost its light, and the pills don’t work
Until another’s lips lose control, and it feels so good
So good
At least you know you’re no good
