BEAR TRAP – ‘Sugarcoated’ EP Review

BEAR TRAP – Sugarcoated

Bear TrapBear Trap are a pop punk/punk rock band based in Manchester, England. Their new three track EP was just recently released, and we gave it a spin.

The band state that they are influenced by the likes of Alkaline Trio and The Ataris and the first track, Goodbye, with it’s powerful and forward guitar lick pays a fitting tribute to those bands. The song is packed with melody and hooks delivering an accessible bundle of punk rock perfection.

Lena, You’re A Miracle continues to lay down some serious power chords underpinning the plaintive vocals. Bear Trap deliver changes in style and tempo throughout and the effect is that it keeps the listener on their toes.

The EP closes out with Hopeless where serrated guitars, pounding drums and bass hooks support the screamed vocals to, once again, craft a pop/punk package that is very pleasing indeed. Bear Trap are a welcome addition to the scene and this EP is a super display of their songwriting chops.
