BELLEVUE DAYS – ‘Rosehill’ EP Review

bellevue-daysCroydon-based sludge pop/alt-rock four piece, Bellevue Days, have announced the release of their new EP Rosehill on 4th July 2017. The band saw a huge swell of support last year at national press and radio, gaining praise from the likes of Kerrang! Magazine, Rock Sound, DIY, Upset and Dork. Their single ‘Ripped Jeans’ picked as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in The World on Beats 1, and spending 6 weeks on the Kerrang! Radio playlist, with further spins at BBC Radio 1, Radio X, BBC Introducing, and many more specialist shows.

The five track EP opens with Black Sheep Baby where some mellow vocals and keyboards introduce a melodic track that is both personal and powerful at the same time. Over four minutes in length, the band explores many textures from the quiet to the astoundingly earsplitting and, in true shoe-gaze style, the guitar gets the head-banging whilst the lyrics engage the rattling brain…it’s a superb song, simply excellent!

On Jack and I Bellevue Days take things up a couple of rungs of the ladder with some powerful guitar driving those sections that sandwich the very mellow vocal/guitar interludes…I was reminded a little of Royal Blood in terms of the sheer power these folks create. The 3rd track, Secret Love is chock full of melody and personal lyrics with a shoe-gaze riff that brought Ride to mind.

Faith has an “Oasis meets The Pixies meets Swervedriver” sound with strong vocal melodies, powerful guitars and a tight rhythm section. The EP closes with Dead Summer a more restrained effort but still full of melody and latent menace throughout. Bellevue Days are sophisticated and come across as a band who know that they are onto something.

The band will be appearing at several festivals this summer before hitting the road for a run of August UK tour dates with Patrons, and another stint of October UK dates with The Young Hearts. Check them out here online
