CHANEYS – ‘Legacy’ EP Review

CHANEYS – Legacy

ChaneysHailing from Moscow, Russia and self-described as “Horror Punk” in style and citing influences such as the Misfits, Chaneys have recently released a six-track EP, Legacy.

The churning riffs that open Do You Really Think I’m Dead? –  set up a pacey, melodic and tightly played punk rock piledriver replete with super group vocals invoking early Dave Vanian of The Damned thoughts!

Ghost Stories maintains the pace with speedy drums and booming bass supporting vocal harmonies and a soaring chorus whilst Lycanthropia adds an ominous guitar lick creating a pop/punk vibe like combining Green Day with The Damned! On The Vow, a feedback drenched introduction is joined by church bells before a storming riff emerges to set up a track that conjures up images of the devil with some guttural group vocals competing with the melodic lead vocal approach.

The penultimate song, Farewell is a towering rocker with some excellent guitar work and showcases a band at the height of their powers. The EP ends with Like A Wolf and it’s another lengthy song allowing the band to explore acoustic sections, chunky riffs and a mid-paced stomping beat all setting up a stunning chorus…good stuff indeed!
