CHUMP – ‘Welcome To The Punk Rock Family’ Album Review

CHUMP – Welcome To The Punk Rock Family

ChumpBelgian punkers, Chump released their 5th studio album (the second album since the “rebirth” in 2015), Welcome To The Punk Rock Familythis month. The name of this album is due to the fact that Chump invited many friends into the studio while recording this album. They have asked every single one of them to add some vocals on it. Some of those friends include:-

Lionel Bolain from Wolves Scream,
Rom Adé from Radio 911,
Flopivo Massart and Laurent Fontenelle from CORBILLARD,
Laurent De Zutter from Adverse96,
Kévin La from INTENABLE,
Antho Logique from INTENABLE, Guerilla Poubelle, Mauvaise Pioche,

The album starts off with the aptly titled,Intro with mid paced chunky segments mingling with 200mph punk rock, soaring group vocals and an overall fast fun feel. The title track, Punk Rock Family maintains some hellish fast pace, dueling vocals and some serious hooks throughout – it is a corker of a track!

The Cicada And The Ant clocks in at almost four and a half minutes and it seriously rocks with elements of Stiff Little Fingers, Therapy! and the Buzzcocks combining to produce a melodic hardcore track with excellent vocals from all participants of the ‘family’ and some super technical punk rocking.

On Heaven,Chump add a plaintive, longing and melodic vocals on some meaty riffs and pummeling beats whilst Sublimation has some hints of The Clash and Green Day with some manically fast sections to boot! The rollicking The Perfect Melody has a sea shanty undercurrent before displaying some serious punk/pop-punk chops that Bad Religion would be proud of!

The penultimate song, She Makes Me Go Out Of My Mind features some strong bass guitar, serrated riffs and a pacey punch to the gut and the album closes with another aptly named song, Cessation. Chump see us out with an AC/DC power riff, tribal drumbeat and an overall pop/punk pleaser!
