CITY MAZE – ‘Lifestyle’ EP Review

CITY MAZE – Lifestyle

City MazeCity Maze have been described as the “Next big thing from Sweden?” – Vice Magazine. They are based in Gothenburg, a city that has produced interesting indie bands and approaches. The bands debut EP, Lifestyleis full of hooks and melodies with soaring vocals, big guitars and pounding riffs with sing-along choruses.

The opening song, Poor Catrina drips with 1960s vibes and melodies with a Weezer like guitar approach and a massive singalong chorus that had us swaying along and searching for the torch function on our iPhones J

Up next is In The Shadow where the Weezer comparisons continue including some “ooh, ooh, oohs” from the backing vocals. The track has a mid-paced beat and is very catchy as is the follow up, Running Out Of Time with its Snow Patrol-esque introduction and a vocal reminiscent of Frightened Rabbit before the chorus oozes with melodic catchiness!!!

The EP closes with The Rooftop Boy where the riffs are slightly dirtier juxtaposing nicely with a super tuneful vocal that is about as feel-good as music can get. These folks are good…if you like 1990s indie, Weezer, Ash etc, you’ll love these guys!!
