COCKWOMBLE – ‘Henchmen’ EP Review

COCKWOMBLE – Henchmen

CockwombleCockwomble claim to be “the best/worst band you’ve never heard of. Until now!” and they release their four-track EP, Henchmen on July 27th. They chose their name after seeing David Cameron described as a Ham Faced “Cockwomble.”

The title track opens the EP and Henchmenis about being a traitor to the human race by working for the Conservative Party (hard to disagree). With a booming bass, emotional vocals and some excellent guitar work, the track blends The Fall, Art Brut and Pulp into one almighty package – we loved it!

The second song, Radio 1is about how the band are “definitely going to be famous and will be played on Radio 1.” The rolling riff/lick and mid-paced beat is replete with female backing vocals as the lead vocal offers a plaintive storytelling approach which all work to set up a head-banging rocker that has some hints of the first wave punk bands and a good dose of humour!

Sex, Lies and Videotapetakes on the subject of revenge porn with the female backing vocals, pop-punk vibe in the vein of The Undertones with some bitingly funny lyrics that hammer home the point of “small men” wrecking lives – excellent stuff. The closing song is a “radio version” of Henchmenwhere that brilliant bass and pounding drum return to support the excellent lyrics with a cutting message and edgy guitars – this is good stuff folks!!
