dragSTER – ‘Anti-Everything’ Album Review

dragSTER – Anti-Everything

DragsterThe much-anticipated fourth dragSTER album will finally be released on Louder Than War Records label on Friday 17th of August, 2018.

The Coventry (UK) based five piece have gained a worldwide unique cult-like following thanks to their enigmatic B-Movie inspired style of songwriting and adrenaline fuelled live performances.

The screaming guitars that introduce the title track, Anti-Everything leads to a modern Vice Squad sounding punk rock classic. With a huge dose of UK82 punk energy and hooks to spare, this is a great opener that just grabs you by the throat and shakes you to your core. The follow up, Broken By Design is the longest on the album clocking in at over four minutes yet full of pace, power and melody with a hint on Iron Maiden meeting Bad Religion with some super bass guitar work.

Burn It Clean releases from the traps with serious speed and a soaring shout along chorus – this one is a spiraling roller coaster rock and roller with Charmed To The Teeth somehow finding yet more pace with some excellent drum work supporting the fast riffs and urge to “fight, fight, fight”…WOW!!!! The distorted rhythms that bring Damned into play, with hints of ska and hardcore mangled together produce something quite special and the rollicking bass led Dark Roulette is something quite spectacular with high pitched vocals and rolling guitar licks straining to keep pace with the pummeling drums!

The 7thof thirteen tracks on the album is the hardcore forty-nine seconds of Drone Pilots with Enemies providing a mosh-pit friendly, Exploited like punk rock pounder! The band maintains the power, precision and pace on One Bad Cop with an excellent seesaw chorus and vocal interchanges that add to the atmosphere whereas Spit It Out is a shorter track that simply motors along at 150mph and the lead vocals reminded me of DIRT.

With Tokyo Joe the monster riffs, booming bass and pounding beats support a dirty rock and roller and the penultimate track, United Decay sets a different tone with radio voice supplanted by a superb head-banging riff to produce four minutes of sheer anger and controlled aggression – and a melody infused chorus that just delights.

The excellent album closes with Vultures Circle where a pounding drum meets a screamed vocal and foot stomping slab of punk rock mayhem. This is one fine album, one of the best of 2018 so far and one you need to get a hold of.
