EMPTY LUNGS – ‘Don’t Get It’ E.P. Review

EMPTY LUNGS – Don’t Get It

empty-lungs-dont-get-it-digitalEmpty Lungs from Belfast, Northern Ireland have become the first European artist to sign with Canadian based label Hidden Pony Records. Their ‘Don’t Get It’ EP is planned for release on March 10th, 2017. The band were formed in 2011 and have gone through the usual struggles of band life with members departing as well as founding member, Kev Jones almost dying in a house fire!

The band have toured extensively in Europe as well as the US supporting the likes of the Japandroids and Alkaline Trio. Don’t Get It will be released on 7” vinyl as well as digital download.

Speaking on the release and upcoming tour dates, vocalist/guitarist Kev Jones said, “‘Don’t Get It’ is by far the best 3 songs we’ve ever written and we’re so excited to get it out. We’re over the moon to be working with Hidden Pony Records. We’re super excited to be a part of the family.

“Above all else, we love to play shows and we can’t wait to get sweaty and rowdy on our upcoming UK tour.”

The three song EP opens up with the title track, Don’t Get It and it’s a power-punk effort in the spirit of Green Day. Full of hooks, a propelling beat and melodic chorus, Empty Lungs have released a splendid song to bang your head to!

Losing It. Finding It sees the band sounding more like west coast America than Northern Ireland with a pop-punk effort that has some taste of the emo of AFI and showcases an uncanny knack for writing a catchy and powerful song.

As the song fades out to a fist in the air chant, the final song of the trio, Fragile, is introduced with a distorted bass lick that is prevalent throughout the track and underpins some melodic vocals and powerchord guitar riffs – there is a slight Pixies feel to the song.

Empty Lungs sound fresh and exciting and can certainly pen a catchy powerful tune. Check them out here:
