GRAVVES – ‘Oh The Joy’ EP Review

GRAVVES – Oh The Joy

GravvesOn April 27th, North Wales noise merchants GRAVVES will release their new six-song EP, Oh, The Joy, which is available to order now.

The opening track, Power Bomb Baby, begins with some garbled computerized vocals before literally exploding into a wall of sound, monster punk rock track. The vocals are full are angst and gravel throated shouts as the booming bass and soaring guitars drive the speakers to bursting point. Wow!

Monster Truck is full of energy with pummeling drums creating head-banging beats and the vocals aggressive. The band are loud, clever and remind me a little of Pizzatramp and the Idles in song construction/approach.

The six track EP continues with This Is Bliss where a discordant intro leads to a rhythmic punk rocker where all instruments add to the underlying melody. This one had the entire office thrashing in an impromptu mosh-pit – we’re getting too old for this!!! On Sinister Surfer, GRAVVES show us another side to their personality with a goth approach brimming with squealing guitars and a bass line to die for. The song implodes upon itself in a chaotic ending!

The penultimate song, Hello Sailor returns to the fast riffs, screamed vocals and fast-paced punk rock that spirals its way into your brain and stays there – loved this one! Concluding this immensely satisfying six-track EP with L Is For Loser, the band leave it all on the field with an aggressive mid-paced romp.

In support of the new record, GRAVVES will take to the road, including appearances at Wrong Festival, Sound City and Focus Wales.
