GUY – ‘Loser’ EP Review

guy-loserLoser is a 3-track that has been self-recorded, funded and published and is certainly worth a listen. Opening with Finders Keepers the band pins back your ears and forces your head to bang and feet to move. With the bass up front in the mix to great effect and the guitar chopping through the chords, the song is relatively complex with time changes and rhythm’s that help the vocals that are lamenting a relationship gone wrong.

Healthy opens with some slow and atmospheric guitar underpinning the vocals with lyrics focused on another angle of relationships. The song is surprisingly mellow and very well delivered. It is a slow track throughout but builds via a guitar solo to some serious grunge feel.

Third track, Memories is, for me, the strongest on the EP with some terrific lyrics backed up by a great punk riff and guitar work in general and some top notch drums.  By the end of the track, it’s clear why they titled the EP Loser as they lament being away from home.

Although the Bandcamp page lists a number of players, GUY is really the project of one, ahem, guy from Liverpool/York in the UK who has been playing and writing since the age of 8…it’s good stuff….available here:-
