HUMMER – ‘Budweiser And Butter’ EP Review

HUMMER – Budweiser And Butter

HummerHummer release Budweiser And Butter͟ on March 30th 2018.

Hummer are a punk rock/alternative band from Warrington in North West England. The eight track album opens with an absolute barnstorming punker, Daises, with a pacey beat, relentless hooks and catchy melodic vocals, the band deliver a brilliant rocker.

The title track, Budweiser And Butter is next and maintains the rocking pace albeit a bit more accessible in a pop-punk way reminding me of Stiff Little Fingers in their Nobody’s Heroes stage.

Turpentine channels Bad Religion and other So. Cal punk with a fast beat, melodic dual/group vocals and is followed by Workahol where the band propel forward and threaten to get over the ski tips as they push things to the limit.

On This Won’t End Well For You, Hummer slow things down a little and up the bass in the mix before exploding into a cascading chorus of chords. The bass driven Stone Cold Wasted has a Gaslight Anthem vibe with chunky power chords and gritty vocals.

The second to last song, Invested, drives along with good lyrics and pop-punk approaches and the final track, Unreasonable is a powerful melodic punk rocker that closes a satisfying listen throughout. Good stuff!
