KENO – ‘Confused In An Open Space’ Review

KENO – Confused In An Open Space

KenoKeno are a new punk outfit from London. They have recently played their second ever gig on the same bill as Italia 90 and they sent us their first release, Confused In An Open Space.

From the raw DIY opening to Heat Build Up it is clear that we are in for a treat. It felt to me like discovering some of the best bands on the Crass Bullshit Detector albums. The track speeds up, slows down but has some serious punk energy sounding as fresh as anything I’ve heard this year.

The second track of the six, String Me Along, has a sinister vibe reminding me a little of Rudimentary Peni meets Zounds! On Vitamins, Keno continue to plough the horror punk field with some atonal vocals and guitars adding to the controlled chaos!

Flick The Bean melds some churning punk sections with a UK Decay sound all driven by strong drums and powerful chords. The charmingly titled Pissing Off The Shit Stain launches into a punk rock lick with a hardcore chorus all combining to create an eclectic mix of approaches that work well together.

The EP ends with Jimmy The Driver, where Keno rock it with humorous lyrics and a UK Subs approach sound wise that closes things out neatly and powerfully.
