MISS VINCENT – ‘Somewhere Else’ EP Review

MISS VINCENT – Somewhere Else

missvincentDue for release on May 19th, Miss Vincent from Guildford, England, have upped their sound to a faster tempo than seen on their previous release. The four track EP, Somewhere Else, is packed with energy and gusto with faint connections to Sum 41 and Against Me!

The opening track, Cold Hands is introduced with some church like organ for a few seconds before it literally explodes into a super fast and melodic punk rock three minute blast. With a brief slow down, the song reignites with a super guitar solo and some great vocal work. After listening to a few country/pop releases over the past few days, Miss Vincent was a breath of fresh air on the turntable.

The Lovers continues the aural onslaught with an even more melodic approach replete with super tight musicianship and some great lyrics. It’s a standout track of the five on display with the great line “Hope is a poisoness drug so lets get high and give up”.

At the half way point, Miss Vincent introduce Lost And Forgotten with a full on emo/punk crossover approach that is held together by a great bass guitar with some tight drumming and an infectious guitar riff. This is good stuff!

Beauty In Darkness creeps in with a slow drum and mellow guitar and then a Bowie-esque vocal displays a ballad style variety to the band. The track is dark and sits well with the other four tracks as it breaks into emotion packed power about two thirds of the way through.

Ending up with the manically paced The Western Shore, the EP comes to a fitting end with a track that Green Day would be proud of.
Miss Vincent have two EP release shows:

26th May – Joiners, Southampton
5th June – The Garage (Upstairs), London
