NICK GRANDCHAMP AND THE PEOPLE WATCHERS – ‘Time Out’ Review

NICK GRANDCHAMP AND THE PEOPLE WATCHERS –Time Out

Nick GrandchampNick Grandchamp and the People Watchers is the solo project of Nick (backed by the “People Watchers”) who hails from Rutland, Vermont. The album is out now and it packs a seriously hard punch.

The opening track, Back Around marries a melodic, pop/punk approach with an aggressive vocal and the overall sound is one of pummeling punk rock.

On No Fun, Nick produces a pounding beat and chanted group vocal for twenty-nine seconds of punk/oi music before the rhythmic and belligerent Your Own Way tunnels its way into your eardrums with refreshing power and relentless melody.

The male/female vocal interchange on Don’t Care adds to the creativity and variety as the guitars propel a superb track along and Stay With Me brings some soaring riffs to the forefront creating a wall of sound  that helps to set up an atmosphere of longing ably amplified by the group backing vocals.

The fifty-six seconds of Let It Out motor along at 150mph with sheer power with It’s Not That I Hate You adding some blips and beeps of keyboards to the serrated guitars and massive group vocal delivery –this one deserves to be played very loud!

Dear Mikey is a thirty-three second romp into punk rock/pop punk territory and Forget About Me explores this area more fully with a little Weezer, a little Pennywise and a little The Replacements – good stuff!

The ten-track album concludes with Hurt So Bad where Nick and his friends add a little hardcore edge to their accessible, powerful, melodic punk rock signature – it is a strong track ending a strong release.
