PROJECT YOUTH – ‘Social Dump’ EP Review

Project YouthOur friends from Istanbul, Project Youth have just released their new five-track EP, Social Dump and it is a corker! Last year, we reviewed their debut album, Middle East, and you can read our review here>>>.

The new EP opens with the excellent title track, Social Dump, where the band channel The Business, Blitz and a little Chelsea to craft an urgent Oi infused punker full of energy.

On Refugee, the Buzzcocks style lead vocals compete with some neat guitar licks and huge group backing vocals to create a package that has elements of the first wave of punk and hard hitting lyrics that talk to the plight of refugees running from wars created by western arms. The power is turned up on the chunky and churning Addicted that attacks the banality of consumerism against a backdrop of some excellent punk rock music!

The penultimate track on this EP, Is This Your Life is a storming three and a half minutes of punk rock reminiscent of the Subhumans and the Angelic Upstarts with those Pete Shelley-esque vocals! The last song, New Age is billed as a bonus track and we are all the richer for it as the band cover the Blitz classic from the eighties and they do it some serious justice!!

Superb close to a superb EP…one of the best of the year…well played Project Youth!!!
