SMALL WARS – ‘Small Wars’ EP

SMALL WARS – Small Wars

Small WarsSmall Wars from Tennessee released their debut EP, Small Wars, on April 20th via Indie Vision Music. The outfit brings together the best of indie and punk rock, creating a sound ripe with appeal for the modern day alternative fan, as well as something to like for the punk rock purists, with social & political activism high on the band’s agenda throughout the engaging 4-track.

With the band’s deeply ingrained roots in the Tennessee music scene helping their innate chemistry and vision. The polish, tightness and stunning songwriting are all the more astounding when the band has only been together a year or so!

The excellent Bombs pounds into view with some solid drums, booming bass, a little feedback before launching into a catchy power-pop-punk effort. The melodic and churning Sweetest Girl is up next with a radio friendly sound layered on top of some powerful chords.

The vocals are more urgent on The Problem and the track faster and shorter than the others. Small Wars have a knack for delivering songs that have a message and make you smile at the same time as the songs are upbeat and accessible.

Closing with Resist the drums drive the track along with pace and precision and the overall sound reminded me a little of Husker Du in terms of power and melody. Good stuff!
