TALES FROM THE TRACKS by Phil ‘Swill’ Odgers

Tales From The Tracks

Phil ‘Swill’ Odgers – folk punk and roots music lover and founding father of the UK band of outlaws, The Men They Couldn’t Hang, has written a book.

In this case, what started off as a simple song book with lyrics, chords and background to accompany his solo album ‘Roll to the Left’, morphed into a unique hybrid of memoir, social history, musings, personal photo collection and tales from the tracks leading from Limerick in the Mid-West of Ireland, on to Oban on the West Coast of Scotland, down to Hanwell in the West of London via the South Coast of England. And many points in between.

He calls it a snapshot ‘partial’ autobiography as it picks out stories from over the years and covers the formation of The Men They Couldn’t Hang as well as various other musical adventures he’s been part of.

You’ll meet a varied cast of characters within these pages – personal encounters with Elvis Costello, David Bowie, Shane McGowan, Joe Strummer and many more as well as musings around Folk, Roots, Country, Rockabilly, Rock and Pop!

It’s honest, candid and unpretentious.

Oh yes, there’s also a songbook section at the back covering all the tunes and lyrics he wrote for ‘Roll to the Left’ and even a couple of Hank Williams songs!
