THE 1984 DRAFT – Makes Good Choices

The 1984 DraftDayton, Ohio’s The 1984 Draft is set to release the Makes Good Choices LP.. The band is recommended for fans of The Replacements, Beach Slang, The Smoking Popes, and Sugar.

The album opens with a child’s voice singing the title to Jan Kowalski before the song explodes into a melodic and fast paced punk rock effort dripping with melodies – it’s refreshing and great fun. On Lately the melodies continue after an abrupt “1,2,3,4…” intro – the guitars are layered and vocals harmonious as the song kicks on with a feel good vibe that will have you bouncing around with a huge smile on your face!!!

Honest is a slower burn with acoustic backing to plaintive vocals before kicking in some serious shoegaze guitars and echo-effect vocals to great effect…we loved this one!!  The church organ introduction to Lisbon Falls sets up an epic power-ballad that just drips with melody and socks left and right hooks to the ribs throughout – wow!!

The band showcase their versatility with the rocking and raucous Lutheran Heat whereas Megaphone features some prominent bass guitar work, dreamy guitars and a steady beat that set up a euphoric chorus and build up…magical shoegaze stuff that delighted the office!

The anthem like Miss Ohio has hints of The Cult, good old rocking Americana and a Springsteen vibe with Morrissey Of Mandy’s propelled by a super bass guitar and setting up some seriously powerful punk chords with excellent lyrics that reprise the miserable fascist sympathizer himself! This superb album contains the pounding, foot stomping Red Dress as well as the epic Wedding with its huge guitars and excellent vocals.

This is some really good stuff, really good!!!
