THE DELINQUENTS – ‘Mass Intrusion’ Review

delinquents‘Mass Intrusion’ is the new four track E.P. by The Delinquents and is reminiscent to early Defects or for a more modern comparison, recently reviewed by Punk Online, Scottish band Malfunction. It’s melodic punk that doesn’t bleed your ears but still has enough tempo and grunge to know they won’t be appearing on a Saturday teatime show anytime soon.

Opening with the title track ‘Mass Intrusion’, drums and bass introduction indicative to ‘Warhead’ by UK Subs before the lead guitar cuts in and takes it to a new direction. The vocals kick in with a classic gravelly punk sound taking us through fast versus and much slower chorus…

“There is no exclusion, it’s a random mass intrusion, we fight for our privacy, we fight for what we believe”.

‘Time for a Change’ includes a memorable “whoaoa” chorus that will have you shouting along to the easily decipherable lyrics. It’s a song dealing with the current frailties of the system in general which is just as apt for punk bands today as it was 40 years ago.

‘Feeling Fine’ is a more upbeat punk tune with a good feeling tempo which again has you singing along after a few listens to the catchy chorus.

The E.P. Ends with ‘Crossfire’, the longest track clocking in at just under four minutes. The vocals become even more gravelly and extra solo guitar work is introduced throughout.

This is an accomplished four track effort by The Delinquents and well worth a listen.
