THE DUNTS – ‘Self Proclaimed Council Punk’ EP Review

THE DUNTS – Self Proclaimed Council Punk

The DuntsThe Dunts  are quickly becoming one of Scotland’s hottest exports. Formed in late 2016, the young quartet are a new breed and are being branded as ‘council punk.’ In fact, their new four-track EP is titled Self Proclaimed Council Punk and opens with G53where a slow introduction flatters to deceive as the song explodes into a punk rock frenzy with strong melodies (think the Vaccines) tight rhythmic instrumentation and a deep Scottish accent delivering the acerbic lyrics.

The band have sold-out shows in their hometown venues, King Tuts and Stereo, and they are building their reputation around the world. The catchy Ride The Wave motors along with strong, danceable rhythms with a soaring chorus full of harmony and melody as the band channel Kasabian, The Vaccines and The Wombats but with an edge!

The latest track to gain radio play is the superb Witch Hunt with a super bass line and a superbly appealing chorus. The Dunts  have some serious songwriting chops and they are destined for big things. They close this EP withBirds And The Beez with an upbeat feel, Catfish And The Bottlemen appeal but with a unique vibe that just had us bopping and smiling on a Friday afternoon. This is a very strong release indeed!
