THE MOR(R)ONS – ‘Lager’ Album Review

The Mor(r)onsSlovenian (not Slovakian as we mistakenly stated when reviewing the bands second release) punk-rock/skatepunk band The Mor(R)ons have a new album out!

It’s titled Lager and contains fourteen fast paced efforts opening with the super Wednesday Walk where the skate punk beginning gives way to a melodic and fun ending. The Complainer returns to the melodic vocals after some technical punk rock musicianship, skate-punk beats, booming bass and some serious shredding! On Stop, Go, Grind & Roll the riffs are heavier, the drums maybe a bit faster (if that is possible!) and the vocals replete with backing voices melodic and accessible.

The band work through some chunky punk rock on Turn It Around and explode into Etuda where the power and aggression are turned up a few notches whilst Lose Yourself melds math-punk and skate punk to produce a compelling effort.

The mosh-pit frenzy of Falling Apart is followed by the chunkier, bass driven Sixth Mass Extinction Cycle that develops. The Mor(R)ons have a knack for delivering inventive punk rock with personal lyrics as they do with the eighty-two seconds of My Song and the 101 melodic skate-punk seconds of Cage.

Pillories is a more hardcore, fast-paced punk rocker with pounding drums, big bass guitar and no shortage of hooks whilst 18-55 dials back the guitars for the verses leaving it to the drums and bass to support the vocals. The penultimate song is Make Me and the band slow things down for a grungy introduction that explodes into a roller coaster 150mph effort.

The album closes with Going Places with it’s Green Day like guitars and melodic vocals creating a mid-paced hook laden song that changes pace  speeding to a manically fast conclusion!
