THE RACKATEES – ‘Withdure’ EP Review

THE RACKATEES – Withdure

The RackateesThe Rackatees are a DIY punk band from Lawrence, KS and have just released a new four-track EP titled Withdure.

Here’s a little background info on the band and the new EP: The Rackatees were formed in 2009 and over the past nine years, have toured most of the USA and played hundreds of shows with bands like Bad Religion, Bomb The Music Industry!, Direct Hit!, The Lillingtons, Masked Intruder, OFF!, Old Man Markley, PEARS, The Queers and Street Dogs, among many more. They were listed as one of the best punk bands to ever come from the state of Kansas by Kerrang! Magazine in November 2018.

The new EP is comprised of four songs and was self-released digitally, on CD and 7″ vinyl on November 19, 2018. The first of four-tracks, Crucifix opens with soaring riffs and licks and slow beat before simply exploding into some excellent 300mph hardcore/skate-punk rock with melodic vocals and some dazzling guitar and drum work that is tight, fast and full of power!

Like A Brother veers between sheer skate-punk pace and slower interludes that just provide a short breather before the serrated riffs are delivered at race-car speed and ear-splitting power and then Night Desk picks up the baton channelling Sum 41 and Blink 182 with melodic vocals, walloping drums and intricate guitar work.

The EP concludes with The Wreck Of The F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Rackatees flatter to deceive with a slow start before they rumble forward with strong drums and longing vocals snarling excellent storytelling lyrics. This is one superb song that had us begging for more.
