THE XILES – ‘State Of Mind’ EP Review

THE XILES – State Of Mind

The XilesThe Xiles have released their second EP following on from ‘No Comply’ which we reviewed earlier this year (Review here).

The five-track State Of Mind EP  opens with the excellent Marginal. With some heavy riifs, pounding fast drums and UK82 style vocals, the song blasts away all the cobwebs and delivers with a punch!

Life As A Cart Pusher is a chunkier, Fugazi-like rocker with a soaring chorus to bookend the restrained, rhythmic verses and the bass driven middle-eight adds some excellent flavor to the package. Third up is Mind On End and this one truly rocks creating a sound that would have been possible if Black Flag had met The Blitz in the studio and produced a hardcore/garage/punk/Oi blend!

The penultimate track is a cover of the Circle Jerks classic, Wild In The Streets and the song stays pretty true to the original version and adds some 2018 refresh – always one of favourite songs from the SoCal punkers and Xiles do it proud!

The EP closes with Still Life and that UK82 punk rock spirit shows through as the thundering bass helps support a more plaintive vocal and the hooks reign on down throughout the terrific effort – needless to say, we like these folks and we think you will too!
