THE YOUNG HEARTS – ‘Honestly, I’m Just Thinking’ Review

THE YOUNG HEARTS – Honestly, I’m Just Thinking

The Young HeartsEmo/Alt-rockers, The Young Hearts from Kent, UK are to release their new EP Honestly, I’m Just Thinking on September 29th through Primordial Records.

The Young Hearts suffered close personal losses and even were involved in a serious car accident on the way to a show, which would have been enough for many to call it quits. However, they have come through with a powerful new EP of songs that focus on loss, strife, angst and pain.

The Young Hearts came together in mid-2014and hit the studio in March 2015 to record their debut EP, Everything We Left Behind. The new EP opens with Bloom where the softly strummed guitar lulls you in before the wall of sound hits you and the melodic singing battles the guitars for prominence as the band layer on the sound and emotion. It’s an extremely accomplished bit of songwriting with hooks a plenty and no shortage of muscle. The band channel others like Teenage Bottlerocket with an up-front emo/punk approach.

On Medicine, the vocals take on a more sorrowful tone as the song approaches anthem like status with strong production allowing for the music to breathe and skewer the listener.

All of the four songs are lengthy and Smoke clocks in at four minutes even launching into a blast of guitars after a brief stutter of a beginning and the vocals continue with the melodic approach telling stories and providing plenty of hooks. The band flirt with a pop and radio friendly approach with this song and set up the ending, and another one word title, October. The track starts off with a mournful guitar that leads into echo-infused vocals and the sorrowful feel continues as the band bring the keyboards forward to create a well of emotion.

The EP is for fans of My Chemical Romance amongst others and you can check out the guys here:
